About the school

Why it exists

There is more makeup on the internet than anyone could watch and almost none of it is teaching. A video shows you one face that is not yours, moving at a speed you cannot follow, using nine things you do not own. You watch it, you save it, you learn nothing, and next week you watch another one.

A school is the other thing. It has a curriculum, it goes in an order, it starts where you actually are, and it knows what you did last time. Seven tracks, forty-two lessons, six whole looks, from washing your face to a liner that holds all night.

And it teaches on the only face that matters for this, which is yours. Nobody learns to draw a line by watching it drawn on someone else's eye.

What it is not

• No shop.

  Nothing here sells you anything, and nothing here links out to somewhere that will.

• No affiliate links.

  No product is named because someone paid for it to be named.

• No paywall.

  Every lesson is open, in full, signed in or not. There is no paid tier to hold anything back.

• No feed.

  No likes, no followers, no other people's faces to measure your own against.

• No stylised face.

  The school never draws a pretty illustrated face for you to aim at. It shows you your own camera, or it shows you nothing.

Who it is for

It was built for a fifteen year old with five products and no idea, because that is who nobody writes for. Foundations begins at washing your face. Don't buy it yet is a whole lesson.

It works just as well if you are forty, have done the same eye every morning since school, and want to know why it never sits right on you. The answer is usually your shape, and the mirror can show you that in a minute.

It assumes nothing about your budget. Every lesson names what it needs, and every lesson has a way through when you do not own it.

How it is made

• The teacher is an AI, and it says so.

  It is labelled on every caption it writes. It is not a person and it never pretends to be one.

• The art is rendered.

  Every icon, charm, jewel and brooch was made for this school. None of it is stock and none of it is a line icon borrowed from somewhere else.

• There are no faces in it.

  No model, no illustration, no stylised eye. Where a face would go there is your camera.

• A person reads every lesson before it goes up.

  Nothing is published to the school on a machine's say-so alone.

What the mirror reads to draw the guide stays on your device. The privacy page says exactly what is kept, what is sent and what is deleted. The accessibility page says what the school does not do yet.

Anonymous on purpose

There is no founder on this page, no photograph of anyone and no address. Beauty is thick with people selling you themselves, and a school does not need a face on the door. The only thing that should decide whether you stay is whether the lesson works on your face.
